The Mutt Sub @ Mutt Lynch’s Huntington Beach, CA

Alfred Packer

On a beach cruiser bar hopping while riding down Huntington Beach on a Wednesday afternoon. Life only gets better through a lottery win or, a AVN award for most tasteful one on three scene. At least that’s what I thought until my beach cruiser wing man suggested that we stop in at beach front establishment known as Mutt Lynch’s. The menu was standard pub fare but, what caught my eye was the Mutt Sub with garlic fries. Without consultation from the locals I ordered and was delighted to receive nods of approval from my socal friends. I was floored when the sandwich arrived. Let me be frank, this was one of the top three sandwiches I have ever had in my life. The garlic fries were without doubt the best fries I have ever had. Mutt Lynch’s was so good that you could be staring out at septic tank instead of the pacific and you still would be smitten.

“The Combination” at The Mall Deli

Alfred Packer

Pittsburg, Kansas is known for having one of the most storied athletic programs in all of college sports and, thanks to the travel channel great fried chicken joints. Ask anybody that has ever lived in Pittsburg though where you should eat while you are in town and the chances are they wont even mention the now famous chicken joints. Most locals will tell you strait up. “You have to eat at the Deli!” The Mall Deli is almost as much a part of the students life at PSU as is their classes. The menu has the all standard sandwiches you will find at any deli but, the real star of the show is the “Combination”. This sandwich is a lot of things, your choice of two meats, two cheeses, bread, warmed, grilled or cold. I ordered mine in the following configuration ham and corned beef, cheddar and swiss, on marble rye grilled. Jackpot! It was sandwich perfection. I’ll offer and insiders tip to “experiencing” Pittsburg, Kansas for those of you readers that have never been there. Have a slim jim and shoot a game of bumper pool at the 311 club. Go to a football game and if nothing else go to The Mall Deli!
